Suspected Al-Qaeda terrorist arrested by Delhi Police from Haryana
A madrassa teacher from Bangalore was arrested by Delhi Police for suspected links with al-Qaeda earlier this month, making it the fourth arrest in its ongoing operation against the terror outfit.
Mewat: Tightening the noose around terrorists operating in India, the Special Cell of Delhi Police on Monday arrested an Al Qaeda operative from Haryana. The police had earlier made arrests in Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and Bengaluru in connection with the same case. “He was in constant touch with Abdur Rehman from 2001”, Deep said. He landed in Pakistan via Dubai in January, 2014. “Accordingly, the accused Abdul Sami is remanded to police custody till 1 February”, Additional Sessions Judge Reetesh Singh said. So far the police have identified three persons whom Rahman had inducted in al Qaeda’s module in the Indian sub-continent (AQIS) and sent for training. Sources said Sami’s arrest has exposed the Qaida sleeper cell he headed and they are looking for its other members.
If sources are to be believed, the alleged terrorist is a resident of Jamshedpur. He was allegedly asked provide logistical support whenever the need arose, police said.
The police have yet not disclosed Sami’s role in the module.
They were all booked under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. He was trained in Mansera, Pakistan.
