Two army helicopters were also pressed into the operation and a gunbattle was on when reports last came in. Times of India reports that no hostages have been taken at this point.

The authorities, through police sources have said that terrorists reached Gurdaspur through Jammu and Kashmir. Singh assured Badal of full central assistance to tackle the situation. The Union Home Ministry has also dispatched a team of National Security Guards (NSG) to help in neutralising the gunmen.
It happened a day after Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal faced pro-Khalistan slogans at a function at Punjab University in Patiala. As indicated by TV reports, there are four armed terrorists who are now holed up inside the Gurdaspur police station while the encounter is on.
Two civilians died when the terrorists fired at a nearby hospital, police officials said.
India regularly accuses Pakistan’s army of providing covering fire for rebels who infiltrate across the border and then mount attacks in the Indian sector of Kashmir.
Llive bombs were found at a railway track not far from Dinanagar police station, indicating a well-planned attack intended to cause maximum damage, NDTV said quoting police. A police spokesman Rajvinder Singh said he had witnessed a security officer taking a bullet during the stand-off. Gunshots could be heard on television as security forces in red turbans surrounded the building about 20 km from the Pakistan border.
