Suspected spy arrested in Pathankot
Protection companies haven’t up to now proven month ‘s panic attack and an immediate link between Irshad.
Establishing the claim, Punjab police arrested one person from the area today, suspected to be an ISI agent and recovered from him phototographs of military installation. The accused was identified as Irshad Ahmad, according to The Hindu. Though police have not yet linked Irshad directly to the Pathankot attack still it have not ruled out the chance also. Irshad was working undercover as a labour and had shot pictures of sensitive locations and passed it on to Sajjad, investigations have shown.
Pathankot Cantt is among the most delicate and greatest military angles of the Indian Military. Sajjad was recently arrested in a pending case regarding the Arms Act, and will now be questioned based on Ahmad’s revelations.
Irshad’s arrest is being seen as evidence that Pathankot, which borders Pakistan, is still on the terror radar despite security being strengthened after the Pathankot air base attack. They are investigating how Irshad got his instructions from across the border. He is said to have sent the photographs to Irshad and Pakistani handlers via chat messaging services or email.
Irshad was tasked to collect photographs of all sensitive installations and equipment inside the cantonment and was sending them to his Indian handler, Sajjad, in Jammu, said the official.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) base in Pathankot was stormed by militants, reportedly belonging to Pakistan-based terrorist outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), on the intervening night of January 1 and 2. It resulted in the death of seven security personnel.
