Suspects Killed By Police Outside Sand City Target Store
A Sand City shooting outside a California Target store on Monday injured two police officers and resulted in the deaths of two suspected gunmen as the investigation continues.
Around mid-morning on Monday, a homeowner in Pebble Beach interrupted a home burglary in progress, and a credit card taken from the residence was then used at the Kohl’s store in Marina, Flippo said.
According to the Santa Cruz Sentinel, the officers were attempting to serve a warrant to the men, who were sitting in their vehicle, when the gunfight broke out in the parking lot of the store, located in the Edgewater Shopping Center in Sand City.
Seaside police, the Monterey County Sherriff’s Office, and the California Highway Patrol all responded to the shooting, NBC Bay Area reported.
Autopsies on Spaits and Money are scheduled for Wednesday, Flippo said.
Flippo says Money was scheduled to appear in court, but after failing to show up for three hearings, a warrant was issued for her arrest on August 21.
The two Sand City police officers involved in the shooting were hospitalized.
Bouchra Gygax, a student at Monterey Peninsula College, was trying to find parking at the shopping center off Highway 1 when she saw two policemen holding up a third man and the foot of another person sticking out of a auto in front of them.
One officer was treated and released from the hospital Monday evening for a neck wound while the other officer had a wound in his upper chest and shoulder area and was released Tuesday.
The case remains under investigation.
