Suspects rammed police cruiser, led chase across Metro Vancouver: RCMP
In between, a police cruiser was rammed and several RCMP vehicles gave chase through Metro Vancouver during the early hours of Thursday morning.
The grey Honda Civic was stolen in Coquitlam earlier in the night, and had not yet been reported missing by the owner, said McColl.
Officers stayed on the car’s tail as it sped along Highway 1 out of Surrey and into Coquitlam, Burnaby, Vancouver, the District and City of North Vancouver, and then finally into West Vancouver.
When police arrived around 1 a.m. the suspects fled, ramming a police auto on the way.
“It got off at Exit 4, where the vehicle lost control and struck a concrete barricade”, Honeyman said.
Two people – a man and a woman – were arrested after the wild ride, according to Surrey RCMP Staff Sgt. Blair McColl.
They made it all the way to West Vancouver, when cops there used a sort of spike strip to deflate the car’s tires.
Assistant Commissioner Dan Malo, head of the RCMP in the Lower Mainland, says the two suspects travelled through five communities and could face serious charges. “It ended up hitting a police vehicle in the process”, Schumann said.
