Suspended chief engineer arrested in graft case
It is also claimed that Singh was evasive during the examination and could not explain some new evidence presented before him by the agency.
Mr Singh, 51, was suspended as Chief Engineer of the Noida Authority by the UP government headed by Akhilesh Yadav in 2012, after raids at multiple properties excavated diamonds worth 100 crores and two kilos of gold.
He is facing two separate CBI cases – amassing disproportionate assets and high-level corruption in awarding contracts.
Noida: Yadav Singh, the former Noida chief engineer who is accused of orchestrating a massive scam in giving out tenders and amassing wealth disproportionate with his income, was arrested by the CBI on Thursday.
It has been alleged that the tenders were called and received in the same month.
Welcoming the arrest of Yadav Singh, state BJP president Laxmikant Bajpayi said it was long awaited and now the loot trail would be out in the open.
These contracts are among the many dubious deals that Singh is alleged to have clinched which have been under scrutiny from the CBI since June 2015. “We hope his arrest will now expose his political bosses, who provided him backing all these years” UP Congress president Nirmal Khatri said.
The cases relate to allegations of criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery and provisions under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
He was arrested after a detailed questioning regarding his business links, beneficiaries who were allegedly involved in bribery. One of accusations against Singh is that work to lay underground cables had started in September 2011 though the contract was signed in December that year, by which time 60% of the work had been completed. Ramendra is now in judicial custody.
Yadav Singh is believed to have been handling projects worth Rs 8,000 crore in Noida and was also made chief of the Yamuna Expressway project for a brief period by the Uttar Pradesh government.
