Suspended Oakland Raiders LB Aldon Smith enters treatment center
Raiders outside linebacker Aldon Smith is reportedly seeking help at a treatment center, according to TMZ.
No substance has been identified for why Aldon Smith has entered rehab, but he it is his second time entering a rehab program.
Already suspended for a year due to multiple infractions, Smith could be looking at even more trouble with the league if the NFL deems the video and reported rehab as sufficient evidence to discipline him further.
TMZ Sports reported Friday the decision came after a video that allegedly showed Smith smoking a blunt was posted online.
In that video, Smith’s face is never shown. The man then says, “They don’t know it’s me”.
Smith’s sobriety was put into question on Sunday by a freaky video on social media. Recent reinstatements of Josh Gordon and Dion Jordan should be encouraging signs for Smith potentially getting back into the National Football League, but the National Football League will want to review the video and Smith’s other matters before any decision is made. He denied being involved.
Aldon Smith was originally drafted by the San Francisco 49ers with the seventh overall in the 2011 NFL Draft out of Missouri.
Smith is now serving a year-long suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
He recently signed a two-year deal with Oakland, despite being suspended for the entire season following his hit-and-run arrest.
