Suspicious package shuts down part of the University of Minnesota
The discovery prompted the precautionary closure of the student services building, which remained shuttered through Monday and finally re-opened Tuesday.
Police were called to Coffman Memorial Union on the East Bank campus in Minneapolis late Sunday on a report of a suspicious bag.
A KARE 11 photojournalist on the scene says bloodhounds are being walked around the student union.
The Minneapolis fire chief says it was a tent bag that was X-rayed and checked for radiation, but showed no safety concerns.
Authorities decided to keep the building closed until it could be thoroughly searched.
Coffman Union was closed on Monday. Now, officers are searching the building to determine whether it’s safe.
Buses and Green Line light rail transit are continuing as scheduled, the Star Tribune said.
