Swansea City coach Garry Monk confirms Bafetimbi Gomis interest
Bafetimbi Gomis scored 10 goals for Swansea last season.
Garry Monk has admitted Dubai club Al Ahli have made a move to try and lure Bafetimbi Gomis from Swansea City – but dismissed the chances of him quitting the Liberty Stadium.
The 2013/14 UAE champions had identified Gomis as a candidate to solve their striker shortage, with reports suggesting they had activated a £7 million (Dh39.9m) release clause in the Frenchman’s current contract.
“He’s trying to sort out, and the club are trying to sort out, an agreement where we can find him a club to move to, but that agreement has to be right for all parties”, Monk said.
Emmanuel Adebayor has scored 122 goals in English football and could prove a very useful addition to a Swansea City attack that lost the services of Wilfried Bony to Man City in January. Bafe is focussed on doing a good job.
“There is always speculation and obviously I think there was contact from that club to our club but that’s as far as it goes and, like I said, Bafe is looking forward to a season with Swansea City“.
“He finished strongly at the end of last season and I think he can take into this season and do well again”.
Gomis was absent as Swansea drew 1-1 with Reading in a pre-season friendly on Friday night, though he is due to play at Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
“The most important bit is the minutes”, Monk said. “That was the first 90 minuters for pretty much all the lads and that’s good”. We dominated the ball which was pleasing, we were a little sharper.
