Swansea done in the market – Monk
Club legend Britton has fallen down the Swansea pecking order, with Ki Sung-yueng, Jonjo Shelvey and Jack Cork all ahead of him for a central-midfield starting berth.
And it prompted the 32-year-old to consider leaving South Wales with a possibility of a MLS move emerging amid interest from Championship sides. The Ghana global has made a blistering start to his Swans’ career, scoring in consecutive games.
With the recent signing of Botti Biabi from Falkirk, Swansea have now signed eight new players so far this summer and with the transfer window still open for at least two weeks, it was expected that the Swans would be making a couple of new additions to their squad.
Yet, having received a standing ovation following a late substitute appearance against Newcastle at the weekend, Britton has now declared he wants to stay and slug it out to force his way back into Monk’s Premier League plans.
“I think we are done, I am not actively looking for anyone”, he told the South Wales Evening Post.
“It looks like I’ll be staying here and I’m delighted with that”.
Britton, in his second spell at Swansea, has played in all the top four divisions since 2002 but made only nine appearances last season.
“I am very happy with the squad I have got”.
“They are very much a good footballing team, with a great understanding between the players, and a fantastic work ethic”.
But fans’ favourite Britton said: “Just pulling on the shirt (against Newcastle) and seeing the Swans badge put a big smile on my face”.
“But the fans’ support really underlines the special relationship we share”.
