Swansea: Monk unhappy with Swansea overreaction
Swansea City have come under fire for misfiring in front of goal – yet nobody in the Premier League has been more accurate when it comes to shooting than Garry Monk’s men.
Yet Monk’s claim that it is a matter of time before his side start finding the net again has been backed up by the fact Swansea now boast the best shot accuracy in the Premier League.
“The way I am getting asked things is as if we are reaching for the panic button or something”, Monk said at his pre-match press conference.
The Dutch boss admits that Swansea are a very hard opponent to break down, and feels the two side’s similar styles will ensure that the game is very evenly matched.
Having started off the season with a goal at Newcastle, Pelle bagged another one in the 3-0 thrashing of Norwich before scoring a brace last weekend against United. You’re expected to win every single game.
“Had anything untoward gone on you’d have seen a reaction on the pitch”, Swansea boss Monk said.
“But the nature of this sport is that you get setbacks”.
And they have both had their fair share of ups and downs across all English leagues, epitomised by Swansea’s meteoric rise from the lower ends of the Football League towards the top half of the Premier League.
“I don’t think there will be a lot of goals”, Koeman predicted. “The way we’ve been playing and trying to play is the right way, everyone is contributing and I could have been talking about five or six different scorers”.
They played out a goalless draw against Everton last week and lost 1-0 away at Hull in the Capital One Cup so they go into this game without having scored in three consecutive games.
Jack Cork’s fine form could see the Swansea midfielder receive a maiden England call-up next week, but Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has no regrets about letting him go earlier this year.
