Swansea reject Everton bid for captain Williams
Swansea manager Francesco Guidolin said of Williams: “He is very important for us and I don’t know this situation and I can say nothing”.
Swansea City have been handed a timely boost ahead of the new season as Gylfi Sigurdsson has penned a new contract.
The Iceland worldwide, who had two years left on his previous contract at the Liberty Stadium, announced the deal on his personal Instagram account.
With the likes of Sigurdsson signing a new contract and a bid for Ashley Williams rejected, it shows the fans that Swansea are not in the business of just selling on their best players.
The Sun on Sunday claimed that Sigurdsson will sign a new deal that will keep him at the Liberty Stadium until he is 30.
“I am looking forward to the next four years here”.
It was reported at the weekend that Everton had seen a bid of £10m accepted by the Swans, but then rebuffed in the local media as no bid having been made.
Williams, who captained Wales during their run to the semi-finals of the European Championship, featured in 36 Premier league games for Swansea last season as the club finished 12th.
The 32-year-old has been one of the standout performers at St Mary’s in recent seasons and he enjoyed a good relationship with Koeman during their time together on the south coast. “We were winning games, which was a lot better than the first half of a year ago”.
