Swap bands in a flash with Google’s Mode for Android Wear
Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) took to its official Android blog to announce its new MODE snap-and-swap watch bands.
Launching today, and available online from the Google Store and Amazon, as well as in Best Buy stores, the MODE for Wear initiative will allow strap makers and fashion names to create their own watch straps using the MODE name.
The Mode bands can come in four different widths, which makes it easier for the bands to connect and fit the most of the Android Watches which are on the market. The MODE bands are available in either Silicon or Leather, with 6 different coloured silicon bands available for $49.95USD or 10 different coloured leather bands available for $59.95USD each. There’s nothing special about the Apple Watch, but it’s clear they’ve got the strap side of things right, offering hot-swappable straps that are easy to swap and change. You can effortlessly attach and detach bands in one simple click.
Mode works with Android Wear watches that support a interchangeable bands, like the Moto 360 (2nd gen), the Asus Zenwatch 2, and the Huawei Watch. Each band seems to have a toggle that lets you easily attach/detach from lugs.
Two years after Android Wear burst onto the scene, Google has released a new standard for watchbands known as “Mode”. There’s also a dedicate website just for Mode, where you can find links to but the watchbands.
What’s more, it’s a versatile line of bands, as each one can be fitted with normal watches too, not to mention that third-party companies can jump on the bandwagon and use the Mode brand for their products when they satisfy the requirements and comply with the guidelines of Google.
The MODE watch bands collection has started with 16 band colours. The genuine Italian leather band doesn’t exactly feel like leather, though. It’s more than just a new strap design as it makes any smartwatch more powerful.
