Sweden probes blast that damaged Turkish group
The explosion occurred during rush hour in an area some 300 meters (328 yards) away from military headquarters.
Turkey’s Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said in a speech on live television on Thursday that the perpetrator of the Ankara attack was a member of the Syria Kurdish YPG militia working with insurgents from the PKK.
No one was injured in the blast in the Swedish capital, which took place at around 9.30pm after police and the national bomb squad were alerted to an “imminent danger of explosion” at 1.20pm, Aftonbladet reports.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the bombing.
Turkey has for five consecutive days shelled Syrian Kurdish targets inside Syria, saying the military was responding to incoming fire. Instead, Davutoglu attended a security meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and other officials. “NATO allies stand shoulder to shoulder in the fight against terrorism”, he said in a statement. After a two-year cease-fire between the Turkish government and the PKK ended last summer, Turkey launched a string of attacks against the PKK, which it views as a terrorist organisation.
The PKK launched an insurgency against the Turkish state in 1984, initially fighting for Kurdish independence although now more for greater autonomy and rights for the country’s largest ethnic minority. Mehmet Kiliclar said Wednesday officials believe the explosion was caused by a auto bomb.
