SwiftKey for iOS gains new ‘My Top Emoji’ and ‘Emoji State’ features
SwiftKey’s US head of communications Jennifer Kutz was careful to note we can only speculate about what emoji use says about the residents of a state. A new interactive map was released today with the answer.
SwiftKey, maker of the popular keyboard app for iOS and Android, found the most popular emoji in each state in the U.S., based on the 1 billion-plus emoji sent by its users who have opted into their cloud service.
The map lets anyone hover over each state to learn what’s the top emoji per state, the emoji used more than any other state and the emoji categories used more/less than average.
You can find your emoji insights by opening the “My Profile” section in the SwiftKey app and clicking “your typing and emoji insights”.
But then again, what’s with Nevada’s top emoji being an eggplant?
No, the emoji Texas uses more than others is this one.
Some of the top highlights of the map include the boar being the No. 1 emoji for Arkansas because of the University’s mascot, California being the state that uses the taxi emoji the most and Hawaii taking first place with the surfing, rainbows, waves, pineapples and volcano emoji. Everyone else in this state must be planning a lot of trips to Hill Country wineries.
Louisiana’s top emoji is the skull and the state uses more violent emoji – including the gun – than other states, while Montana has the least violent emoji use. That would be the horse, the four-leaf clover, and the skier.
Numerous results make sense.
