Swimmer Ryan Lochte to attend Comic Con in Richmond
Rio de Janeiro, Aug.26, (GNA/dpa) – Brazilian police have charged United States swimming star Ryan Lochte with making a false statement after he claimed to have been robbed at gunpoint during the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, media reported on Thursday.
USA swimmer Ryan Lochte’s little “over-exaggeration” has led to criminal charges being brought against him from the Brazilian government.
A police statement recommends that the court issues a summons for the six-time Olympic gold medallist, who will be able to choose whether to introduce a defence in Brazil.
Lochte eventually said he “exaggerated” the story. But instead of a robbery, it seems that the guns were wielded by security guards who kept the swimmers from leaving. If convicted Lochte could receive up to 6 months in jail.
Lochte later admitted to the network that he understood that money was being asked to pay the damage or the police would be called.
Earlier this week, swimming apparel giant Speedo said it was cutting ties with Lochte due to conduct that was “counter to the values this brand has long stood for”.
The athletes were returning to the Olympic Village after celebrating the end of the swimming competition at the Rio Games, according to Lochte. Details of the charge might also be sent to the International Olympic Committee, which has formed an ethics committee to investigate the gas station incident.
The US and Brazil have an extradition treaty dating back to the 1960s, but the latter nation has flouted this in the past.
Lochte has apologized for poor behavior during an incident at a Rio gas station on the morning of August 14. And Feigen, who also cooperated, was allowed to leave with his passport after donating $11,000 to a local sports charity. “If I had never done that, we wouldn’t be in this mess”. Softish Throat Drops. Pine Bros. said people should be more understanding of the swimmer and said he will appear in ads that say the company’s product is “Forgiving On Your Throat”.
