Switch sales pass 1.5 million, pushing closer to Nintendo’s sales goal
The Switch hack by Qwertyoruiop, used an old exploit for the iOS 9.3 WebKit browsers, which the Switch is running, circumvent the console’s protection. How’s it doing so far?
Nintendo has already sold 1.5m Nintendo Switch consoles around the world, according to figures from analytics outfit Superdata Research.
“In most cases it will be enough to move these devices three-to-four feet away from the Nintendo Switch console and/or Joy-Con controllers”, suggested Nintendo.
“We are aware of and have seen some of the reports”, Nintendo North America president Reggie Fils-Aime told TIME on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Switch’s “Pro Controllers” are already sold out in some of the more popular retailers in the US, according to another report from Gamespot.
While the majority of Nintendo Switch owners were trying to pass “The Legend of Zelda: Breathe of the Wild”, hackers were busy trying to jailbreak the latest video game console – and they were probably faster at it.
After previously claiming that the Nintendo Switch isn’t facing any widespread issues, it looks like Nintendo is finally acknowledging the widely reported Joy-Con connection issues.
Of course, those numbers have since grown but the initial Nintendo Switch sales estimate is around 1.5 million units sold. This isn’t a huge surprise by any means, given the hype surrounding the game up until launch. The console ended on the first place in sales during the month, beating Microsoft’s Xbox One. Oddly enough, Nintendo made a decision to ship its latest console with that same old version of WebKit, perhaps reasoning that since there is no user-facing browser that it’s not a high priority.
The new PlayStation 4 support will be rolling out before the end of 2017 and will provide members with the ability to stream PlayStation 4 games on PS4 consoles and Windows PC systems using a single subscription.
