However, Syracuse tightened their defense in the second half, closing down the passing lines that the offense was finding earlier on.
Fans of the Orange can’t hate the deals they’ll find in hotels or actual Syracuse and Virginia tickets, but they’ll only be truly pleased if the Orange can keep rolling with a fourth straight win. The Orange will host Notre Dame on Thursday night at the Carrier Dome. The Orange has proven in its last two games that it can defend a team like Virginia, but the question Saturday will be if it can score enough to win. Myisha Hines-Allen is leading the Cardinals (14-5, 6-0) with 15.1 points and 7.6 rebounds per game entering Monday’s trip to Syracuse, while fellow sophomore Mariya Moore had a career-high 31 points and the winning free throws last weekend at N.C. State.
Up by one with 5:58 to play, Brogdon connected on back-to-back 3-pointers to give the Cavaliers a much-needed seven-point advantage and bring the home crowd to life. Malcolm Brogdon led Virginia with 21 points, while Anthony Gill and Perrantes chipped in 16 each.
The Orange battled back from a 10 point deficit and eventually tied the game at 47 when Tyler Roberson rebounded a Trevor Cooney miss for a put-back. Virginia limited Syracuse on the offensive glass giving the Orange little opportunity for second chance points.
Richardson scored a total 23 points in Sunday night’s game, 18 of which came off of 3-pointers.

Syracuse pulled within three late in the game before the Cavaliers closed it out at the line. Isaiah Wilkins also looked good off the bench, making both of his shots from the field, grabbing 5 rebounds, and dishing 3 assists.
Syracuse started out antithetical in its approach by scoring its first four field goals right at the rim. Syracuse is averaging 70.7 points per game and they are shooting 41.8 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 64.3 points and their opponents are shooting 39.8 percent.
The Cavaliers made eight of their 18 shots from 3-point range for 44 percent.
