Syria crisis: RAF jets jit oilfield In second round of air strikes
The MoD said four RAF planes targeted ISIS-controlled oil fields in a bid to complete Western forces’ long-term plans to hinder the terrorist group’s future attacks by destroying its main source of funding – oil.
The strikes came after last Wednesday’s historic vote in Parliament to sanction military action, despite thousands of people protesting during anti-war demos.
The Ministry of Defence (MOD) said that two Tornado jets, and for the first time, two Typhoons carried out eight attacks on a large oilfield in Omar, eastern Syria.
The Ministry of Defence said the deployment of the Typhoons plus an extra two Tornados offered a significant increase in strike capacity to both the RAF and the wider coalition air campaign.
The Typhoon fighter bombers had only arrived at Britain’s Cyprus base on Thursday, bolstering its strike force of Tornado warplanes. He emphasized there were no civilian casualties in the bombing, and the United Kingdom had been careful with hitting targets.
“We are going to use force against them in the headquarters, their command and control, their logistics, but also in the infrastructure that supports them”, he told the Press Association.
So the government releases a raft of real birdseye video footage showing how Britain’s RAF focuses on targets and precisely and blows up very specific trucks and buildings – therefore mitigating the risk to civilians. And it derives from Syria. “We face a new kind of enemy that makes no demands, takes no hostages, doesn’t want to negotiate”.
He made no assurances about the length of the campaign, telling them only it was “not going to be short or simple”.
The unnamed terrorist was said to have met people “suspected of having the intention and capability of plotting or assisting terrorist activity” in the UK. In a speech that moved some parliamentarians to tears, Benn called on Britain to help defeat these ISIS “fascists” who “hold our belief in tolerance and decency in contempt”.
He said: “I can not believe us stopping air strikes against Daesh in Raqqa for so long as they represent a threat to us, a threat to British citizens and a threat to the British homeland”. We are people who choose our Government, accept a rule of law, tolerate other religions.
And in a continuation of operations in Iraq, two Tornados “silenced” a “terrorist” sniper team with a “direct hit” from a Paveway IV guided bomb, it added.
