Syrian families stopped in Laredo at Texas border
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Thursday confirmed the Breitbart Texas report.
Border Patrol agent and NBPC Local 2455 President Hector Garcia spoke to Breitbart Texas: “Border Patrol agents who we represent have been contacting our organization to voice concerns about reports from other agents that Syrians crossed the USA border from Mexico in the Laredo sector”.
The two agents told Breitbart that the Syrians were attempting to enter as two “family units”.
The Syrians were taken into custody by CBP and later turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further processing. “Mr. President, do your job, protect America’s borders”.
DHS and Customs and Border Patrol said no further information would be provided due to privacy issues.
DHS says the women and children were taken to a family residential center in Dilley.
With no direct flights from Syria to Texas, refugees fly from a neighboring country to Mexico or other Central American countries and then make their way into the states. A Syrian woman using a passport that belonged to someone else was apprehended in September, although authorities opted not to prosecute her. Abbott is one of more than two dozen governors seeking to ban Syrian refugees from their states in the wake of Friday’s deadly terrorist attacks in Paris.
This comes as lawmakers prepare to vote on suspending the program to bring Syrians into the country and homeland security releases its report on the crisis.
