Syrian refugees are not a threat to US
In all, about 22 percent are males between the ages of 18 and 59. Not surprisingly, the mainstream media published these statistics without questioning them.
So where did the statistics come from?
Since January 1, 1,925 Syrians have been placed in the United States, according to the U.S. Department of State.
The fact that so numerous terrorists involved in the Paris attacks were French and Belgian citizens who had fought in Syria or were supporting that effort, at least one of whom appears not to have been on USA government watch lists, is the key fact to focus on from a US national security perspective, not the fact that one of the attackers had posed as a Syrian refugee.
NOW: De Blasio criticized Christie on Wednesday over the fate of Syrian refugees. How many were arrested or deported for non-terrorism charges? Lee also shot down claims that he’s acting out of fear.
In the five-page letter, obtained by The Des Moines Register, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson and Secretary of State John Kerry outlined a series of “rigorous” steps the administration takes to approve refugees before they are allowed into the United States.
“Refugees are finger-printed, photographed, and vetted against all of the national security databases we maintain in search of any hint of terrorist ties or any other criminal or nefarious activity in their background”, Carper said.
Republicans in the race to be on the ballot in the November 2016 presidential election also debated the issue, with Donald Trump saying he would implement a database to keep track of Muslims in the United States, and Ben Carson comparing refugees to “rabid dogs”.
There are lengthy face-to-face interviews, security checks and health screenings. “It’s a matter of making sure we don’t have terrorist coming into our country”, Herbert said. Still, Obama said their faces could have been those of kids from Syria, Iraq and other war-torn regions whose pursuit of a life free from violence led them far from their native homes.
There is also a medical screening and confirmation of sponsorship for the refugee in the U.S.
The United Nations Refugee Agency and its government partners are very deliberate when identifying the refugees for whom resettlement is the only viable option. That’s no surprise, given the GOP rhetoric we’ve been hearing about Syrian refugees.
These governors voiced their concerns after the terrorist attacks in Paris cast a spotlight on the United States process for vetting refugees.
Biden took a softer, more reassuring tone in his remarks than Obama did earlier in the week. However despite the hue & cry of a minimum of 31 governors who’re both opposing, refusing, or suspending the resettlement of Syrian refugees in to their state – both permanently or until after a safety evaluation – the Obama administration has stated it views such selections as a federal matter. His administration tried to convince U.S. House members that the refugee screening process was sufficient, and Obama began entertaining a U.S. Senate proposal to deny visa waivers to recent visitors to Iraq and Syria. In Asia, President Obama said Republican warnings about the current vetting system for refugees – a process that can take up to two years – “doesn’t jibe with reality”.
And don’t relax yet ’cause we’ve barely even started. They could be ISIS. In the house, if you look at the House vote, the president lost 47 Democrats, a veto-proof majority.
Obama’s insistence that Americans not be terrorized carried echoes of the weeks and months after the September 11 attacks, which brought significant changes to US air travel, civil liberties law and views about Muslims in the U.S. Then, as in now, leaders asked Americans not to “let the terrorists win”.
