Syrian state media says British airstrikes are illegal
Defence companies like BAE Systems, which makes Tornado fighter-bombers, could see share prices continue to rise as the UK’s involvement in the war in Syria intensifies.
“I approved yesterday a series of targets in the Omar oilfields, well heads… the Tornados were successful in striking those targets”, Fallon told the BBC on Thursday (local time). “Do we send in bombers, not totally aware of what all the consequences are going to be?”
Speaking during a visit to Bulgaria on Friday, where he met Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, Mr Cameron said the strikes would help bring about a political settlement in Syria because they “take the action to Daesh”.
U.S. President Barack Obama praised the move of Britain and claimed that the coalition would surely work “to integrate them into our coalition air tasking orders as quickly as possible”.
World powers agree that air strikes alone will not defeat Islamic State, but differ on whom to support on the ground, with Moscow backing Assad’s forces and the West backing his enemies. Details about the vote to bomb ISIS itself showed a large majority in favor of action, with 397 voting yes and 223 voting against.
Meanwhile, s hadow home secretary Andy Burnham called for a party code of conduct on the use of social media, and branded Mr Corbyn’s close ally Mr Livingstone “disgraceful” for suggesting that he would back efforts to deselect some of the 66 Labour MPs who backed air strikes in Wednesday’s free vote.
In the end, 66 of Labour’s 231 MPs voted in favour, including 11 members of Corbyn’s shadow cabinet.
“You are now able to hit the Daesh on both sides of that border – Syria and in Iraq”.
More fighter jets were sent to RAF Akrotiri on Cyprus ahead of further sorties in Syria and continued raids in Iraq against Islamic State (IS), which is also known as Isis, Isil and Daesh.
Two Tornado fighter bombers joined an existing eight earlier this week and six Typhoon fighters were also flown to the base, the statement said.
The main question now is whether the expansion of the anti-ISIS alliance will lead to a more comprehensive plan which not only aims to hit terrorists, but also seeks to evict them from their current hideouts. I’m not overstating the contribution that our incredible service men and women can make, neither am I ignoring the risks of military action nor am I pretending that military action is any more than one part of the answer. “Cutting off their finances is extremely important to degrading the terrorists, to undermining their campaign in Iraq and to shrink their operations in eastern Syria”.
“Germany will support France, Britain and other countries with 1,200 troops involved”.
