System Shock Remake Incoming, “Conversations” On-Going for System Shock 3
There’s no release date or further details yet, but Night Dive say “we’ll be revealing something soon!” In an ancient interview from before the release of Bioshock, Irrational Games’ Ken Levine stated, ” BioShock has absolutely no relation to the System Shock series in terms of the intellectual property, characters, settings etc. However, it is inspired by the open-ended design principles pioneered by Looking Glass. Their catalogue includes a bunch of classic adventures like Harvester, Bad Mojo, The 7th Guest, The 11th Hour, Tex Murphy and I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream.
In a fascinating and great piece on the studio at Fast Company, Night Dive confirms development is underway and that it’s working with original concept artist Robert Waters to bring the classic game into the 21st century. And one possibility for that is, following on from their efforts with the System Shock: Enhanced Edition, the potential to make their own titles. We’ve also learned that the studio plans to release the remake on consoles as well, which will be a first for Night Dive.
Developer Night Dive claimed that they have the rights to the franchise, and will work on the original System Shock remake. Could – so don’t get your hopes up just yet.
Kuperman says they’d need a bigger publisher on board, and that they are “having a few conversations” on this front.
“To really do another game in that series is going to take resources and time and commitment that we don’t have”, Kuperman said of the 10-person studio.
