Szczesny seals Roma loan switch
Arsenal have confirmed on their official website that their goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny will spend next season on loan at Italian side AS Roma.
“I’ve come here to win games and trophies with AS Roma and I believe that the team is strong enough to do so”, the Pole, who joined Arsenal’s academy from Legia Warsaw in 2006, told Roma TV.
“They play Champions League football and fight for the Serie A, and I spoke to Roma and made my decision very quickly”.
Despite interest in Ospina from Fenerbahce and Everton the Colombian has been given assurances about his future at Arsenal from manager Arsene Wenger.
The 25-year-old is expected to join the Serie A club on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent move and he will rival Morgan De Sanctis for the No. 1 spot. “I will see anyone soon”.
Szczesny didn’t make a Premier League appearance for Arsenal following the Gunners’ New Year’s Day defeat to Southampton at St Mary’s, a match after which he was found smoking in the dressing room showers.
Arsenal’s fringe players appear to be quite popular in Italy, as Palermo have reportedly approached Joel Campbell with an offer for a loan move.
“I believe if I work hard – and with the help of the coaches – I’ll be able to help the team improve from last season and hopefully challenge for the title”.
And his impressive form saw him oust rival keeper Wojciech Szczesny from the Gunners first team. “I don’t want that experience at such a young age to be wasted”.
Szczesny only kept three clean sheets in 17 games last season and it was no wonder that the Colombia global replaced him as the club’s number one.
