The man tipped to become Australia’s next treasurer Scott Morrison in a looming cabinet reshuffle angrily defended himself against accusations Friday he had betrayed former prime minister Tony Abbott.

‘Every policy of any rational, constructive government is always under review, ‘ he said. “I don’t think it was a surprise to anyone that the six month-period had come and gone without there being any improvement in the polls”.

During today’s press conference, Abbott said the newly announced numbers will be a one-off increase over Australia’s 2015 humanitarian refugee intake of 13,750, and all the refugees will be granted permanent residency.

He said there were similar provisions to the Chilean FTA which Labor negotiated when in government.
