Mohamed was arrested and interrogated by Irving Police officers on Monday after bringing a homemade clock to school.

Teachers at Irving Independent School District in Irving, Texas called police to the high school after Ahmed, who was wearing a NASA T-shirt at the time-brought in an electronic clock as an engineering project.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest called the episode involving Ahmed Mohamed a “teachable moment”.

On Monday, Ahmed showed the clock to his engineering teacher and then another teacher after the clock, which was in his backpack, beeped during class. That teacher told him that it looked like a bomb, the newspaper reported.
