As Apple continues to develop watchOS 2.0 for Apple Watch ahead of its release this fall, the company has released watchOS 2 beta 4 to registered developers today for testing the operating system update on Apple Watch.

Revenue rose 32.5 percent to $49.61 billion from a year earlier, beating Wall Street’s expectations of $49.43 billion. Analysts estimated that the company sold around 48 million to 50 million iPhones during the period.

Dow component United Technologies fell 4.9 percent to $105 after the company cut its full-year profit outlook as it warned of pressures in its aerospace systems and Otis elevators businesses.

Analysts are expecting strong growth for Apple in the reporting quarter. While not expected to be a major revenue source now, the Apple Watch has symbolic importance as the first new product category that Apple has launched since the 2011 death of co-founder and iconic CEO Steve Jobs.

By almost any account, Apple had a stellar quarter, reporting revenue of $49.6 billion (a 33 percent increase year-over-year) and net profit of $10.7 billion ( (.85 per diluted share).

Although unlikely to have a big effect on sales, the smart watch is still the biggest new product category since the release of the first Iphone in 2006.

As the Sydney Morning Herald reports, Apple unveiled the new iPod Touch this morning. This new ipod touch is faster than all precious gens and it is expected to give iPhone 6 some real competition.

Apple has, indeed, released a fully updated 2015 iPod touch, as well as iPod nano and shuffle models wearing fresh colors.

Now the search giant is taking another stab at phone-based transactions, bringing the fight directly to Apple Pay with the aptly, and imaginatively named Android Pay.
