Serbia’s World No. 1 Novak Djokovic won his second US Open championship by defeating Roger Federer of Switzerland 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 in a scintillating final Sunday night.

Andy Murray was sent packing at the fourth round of the US Open, his earliest Grand Slam exit in five years, while 17-time major victor Roger Federer of Switzerland reached the quarterfinals on Monday.

At Wimbledon Federer had hit the heights in his crushing semi-final victory over Andy Murray before running into Djokovic.

At the trophy presentation, Pennetta floored the sellout crowd by announcing that she plans to retire.
