Such an action, rare in the history of Lok Sabha, prompted Congress party president Sonia Gandhi to call it a “Black day for Indian democracy”.

Rejecting the opposition’s charge the government had not reached out to them, Naidu said he had called a meeting of various parties on Friday morning as well but Congress backed out at the last moment and added that he was looking to call a meeting on Monday.

Whether the proposals are tangible or not would be decided at an all-party meeting that has been called at the initiative of the government on Monday.

On Saturday, the Leader of the Opposition in the Upper House of Parliament, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, was tight-lipped on whether the Congress would take part in the meeting.

But just weeks later, embarrassing allegations ensnared Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj along with the chief ministers of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh where the right-wing BJP rules at the state level. He said the recent controversies have dented the party’s image.

Earlier, Congress party had planned to protest silently in parliament premises, but did not continue with the plan.

Congress on Thursday ruled out talks with the government for breaking the logjam in Parliament, making it clear that it will continue till its demand for resignations of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and BJP chief ministers of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan is met.
