Police say the college instructor who murdered his girlfriend and a Delta State University professor killed himself as they closed in on him.

The Biloxi Sun Herald reported that the woman lived with Lamb.

Shannon Lamb is suspected of the fatal shooting of Amy Prentiss, who he lived with on Mississippi’s Gulf Coast, and Ethan Schmidt, a professor at Delta State University 300 miles away.

“Lamb did not provide an explanation or a time frame for the shooting, nor did he indicate that he meant to harm anyone else”, Detective Matt Hoggatt said at a press conference Tuesday afternoon.

One of his history professors at Emporia State University where Schmidt studied described him as one of the “brightest students” she’d ever taught.
