Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin, celebrated for his macho bravura, and pop star Elton John, known for his elaborate costumes, ballads and gay activism, coming together in a phone conversation that the singer said had been initiated by the Kremlin.

“There was no conversation”.

“I would much prefer and advocate a meeting with David Cameron, not because the Prime Minister shares Mr Putin’s views but because he simply does not share those views, and it could start a process whereby the discrimination can be fought and defeated”....

The real Dmitry Peskov told journalists that Putin was “ready to meet with Elton John among others to give answers to all the questions that he might ask”, but the Kremlin had not received a request from the singer.

But the Kremlin firmly denied the president had contacted the singer and hinted the call could have been a hoax.

The singer had recently revealed he spoke to the president to discuss LGBT equality in Russia, but notorious tricksters Alexei “Lexus” Stolyarov and Vladimir “Vovan” Krasnov have said they were behind the call.

A pair of Russian phone pranksters have claimed they fooled Elton John into believing he was talking to President Vladimir Putin. That was directed to, er, both of you.

Guardian reports that the purported call between Vladimir Putin and Elton John didn’t infact take place.

“Pranks are amusing . Homophobia, however is never amusing “, he wrote beside a photo of a young man with a bloodied nose.

While on a visit to Ukraine last week, Elton John met with President Petro Poroshenko and called for stronger protections and expanded rights for the Eastern European nation’s LGBT population.

Peskov went on to seemingly criticize Sir Elton’s Instagram announcement saying, “Unfortunately, we don’t know how authentic this post and this account are, given that it is written in English rather incorrectly”.
