Davis and her husband met privately with Francis last Thursday afternoon at the Vatican Embassy in Washington, D.C., for less than 15 minutes, her lawyer, Mat Staver has said.

ABC News reported that Father Benedettini of the Vatican’s press department issued a statement that said “the Holy See is aware of the reports of Kim Davis meeting with the Holy Father”.

A federal judge ordered Davis to jail earlier this month over her refusal to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples in the Kentucky county where she’s clerk.

Conewago Township resident Arlette Figdore, who along with her husband, Phillip, made the pilgrimage to see Pope Francis in Philadelphia this past weekend, offered an astute observation.

Pope Francis celebrated a giant outdoor mass in Philadelphia on Sunday, bringing to a close an electrifying U.S. tour with an appeal for unity and family love, having met victims of church sex abuse, AFP reports.

The rare criticism that did Pope Francis elicit was the omission – from his public agenda at least – of a meeting with victims of pedophile priests, but on Sunday he met privately with five adults abused as children.

Earlier Sunday, the pope met with victims of child sexual abuse, telling them he is “deeply sorry” for the times they came forward to tell their story and weren’t believed.

Chanting and songs from a choir, and organ music filled the air and thousands of seminarians and women entering sisterhood packed the pews.

Welcomed with cheering crowds and beaming officials in his first visit to the US this week, Pope Francis nevertheless admonished America to do more for peace.
