Operating profit sank 4.03 percent from a year ago to 6.9 trillion won, while sales dropped 7.3 percent to 48.5 trillion won.

Its mobile phone unit’s operating profit plummeted 37.6 percent year-over-year to 2.76 trillion won.

Samsung’s net income for the three months ended June 30 was 5.75 trillion Korean won ($4.9 billion), down from 6.25 trillion won in the year-earlier period, the company said Thursday.

In response, Samsung has pared down its diverse smartphone offerings, and has said it plans to lower the prices going forward for its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge phones.
