The Russian Soyuz/Progress 59 mission failed after the cargo vessel separated from the Soyuz booster rockets third stage and spun wildly out of control in April 2015 and eventually crashed weeks later during an uncontrolled plummet back to Earth over the ocean.
“It just feels like Christmas in July”, a Russian cosmonaut radioed from the ISS, according to a translator. An October 2014 resupply mission failed shortly after liftoff.
As NASA’s New Horizons steadily makes its way to the Pluto system, the spacecraft has confirmed that there is methane on the planet. And so is New Horizons, which will fulfill its destiny when it performs a flyby of Pluto on July 14th.
The unmanned Progress M-28M spacecraft, carrying 2.5 metric tons of fuel, oxygen, water, food and other supplies, linked up with the station two days after it launched aboard a Russian rocket from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
