North Atlantic Treaty Organisation confirmed that a suicide bomber who attacked one of its convoys as it traveled through a neighborhood in Afghanistan’s capital of Kabul Saturday killed 10 people, including three civilian contractors.

More than 60 people have been wounded and at least 12 are dead following a fatal vehicle bomb that exploded outside a hospital in the capital city of Kabul on Saturday, according to The Guardian.

At least 11 people were killed and more than 60 wounded when a vehicle bomb exploded outside a hospital in central Kabul on Saturday afternoon, the latest in a wave of attacks to hit the Afghan capital in recent weeks.

The target appeared to be a vehicle carrying a foreign citizen, a security source and witness said.

At least one woman and two children were among those killed in the attack, said Najib Danish of the interior ministry. Scores of others were wounded.

The attacks took place in the Shawal area of the North Waziristan tribal region, hours after a suicide attack killed 18 people, including the home minister of the northeastern Punjab province.

The new Taliban leader scored an important victory Thursday, however, when al Qaeda boss Ayman al-Zawahiri – one of the most prominent jihadists in the world – pledged allegiance to the Taliban.

The acknowledgment, made in a statement released by Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid, came a day after Afghanistan’s government announced that the reclusive Islamic cleric had died in April 2013.

It was one of three attacks to shock the capital Friday. Most injuries were light, caused by splintered glass, but dozens of people remained in the hospital on Saturday morning.
