Forbes’ annual list of the richest Americans was released Tuesday, revealing which 400 people are the country’s wealthiest, and it was a good year to be in technology.

James Cargill, 66, an heir to the Cargill food and agriculture company who lives in Birchwood, according to Forbes, was eighth in the state and 211th – up from 235th – nationally with net worth of $3 billion.

Apple is the world’s richest and most profitable company and its CEO, Tim Cook, who openly admitted about being gay, is a high profile figure.
