USA retailers get nearly a 3rd of their annual gross sales and virtually 40 % of their income within the buying season that begins a day after Thanksgiving and goes on till early January.

The company now has 770 stores in 45 states; it has closed 52 stores over the past five years and opened 12 new ones. In the coming season, it is opening its stores in Ponce, PR, a Bloomingdale’s in Honolulu, six Macy’s Backstage, and one Bloomingdale’s store....

J.C. Penney reported a narrower loss in its second quarter on stronger-than-expected sales as the department store chain continues to turn its business around.

It looks like Macy’s is the next target of activist hedge fund Starboard Value and its chief Jeff Smith. Mr. Smith, speaking at CNBC’s Delivering Alpha conference in New York, didn’t say how big of a stake Starboard has taken.

CNN reports that Macy’s pulled Donald Trump-branded merchandise from its stores, issuing a statement today in which the retailer said: “We are disappointed and distressed by recent remarks about immigrants from Mexico”.

Vega said she’s never really interacted with Trump one-on-one much, let alone hearing him saying anything racist or questionable.

Let’s also stipulate that while Trump can’t win the nomination, he can be a significant factor in the race – and not, for the Republican Party, in anything resembling a good way.

Unfortunately for Jeb Bush, the Bush name for some people presents a problem. According to him, they should not be let into the United States because of the “great amount of crimes being committed by illegal immigrants“.
