Reports say Hollande plans to meet at the Elysee Palace on August 24 with the three men, who overpowered an attacker who was armed with a Kalashnikov assault rifle, an automatic pistol, and a box cutter on the high-speed train just after it crossed from Belgium into northern France.

Three Americans, a British passenger and a French passenger were involved in the action to wrestle the man to the ground and disarm him after he fired a weapon on the train, according to accounts from three of them and French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve.

He was one of three Americans who helped take down a gunman on a train heading from Amsterdam to Paris.

The pair, who were in civilian clothes, started monitoring the gunman after passengers noticed his behavior was erratic, media reports said.

Cazeneuve did not mention any visit to Syria or France, only naming Spain and Belgium as the suspected militant’s places of residence, this year and last.

The suspect, believed to be a man of Moroccan origin who recently lived in Spain and Belgium, was reportedly armed with a slew of weapons: A Kalashnikov assault weapon, nine chargers, a Luger automatic pistol, a 9mm charger and a box cutter.
