Krakow-born lawyer Andrzej Duda was sworn in as Poland’s sixth president on Thursday, following his election in May.

Duda, who comes from a conservative opposition party, has to work with a liberal government.

Mr. Duda took the oath of office before the National Assembly in Warsaw at the start of a five-year term in power.

Supporters lined the route between the cathedral and the Royal Castle, chanting “Andrzej Duda” and “Bravo” before the new right wing president was sworn in before the National Assembly of lawmakers and senators.

Earlier in the day, Duda officially assumed office as president of Poland during a joint session of both houses of parliament in Warsaw.
