Originally brought to the court by the league after it upheld the four-game suspension of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, Judge Berman is also hearing a counter-suit by the union attempting to strike down the league’s decision.

The league suspended Brady for four games over his alleged role in a scheme to deflate footballs, making them easier to grip, in the Patriots’ 45-7 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in a January play-off game.

Brady and Goodell each stood up and introduced themselves to the judge in open court, while their lawyers also introduced themselves.
