Black cab drivers have always been vocal about their disapproval of the taxi app, and the new proposals can be seen as TfL bowing to this pressure.

Now, it appears, a few of those suggestions could implemented by Transport for London (TfL).

Clear rules for a “level playing field” for taxis and ride-sharing services such as Uber won’t be in place until 2016, Toronto council ruled following a a day-long debate Wednesday (Sept. 30).

Councilors amended an earlier motion that would have required Uber to get taxi licenses for each of its drivers, a move that may have forced the San Francisco-based company to end its popular “UberX” service in the city.

The decision comes amid an ongoing feud between taxi drivers and Transport for London over its licensing of rival minicab-booking app Uber, which has led to a string protests in central London.

The ride-sharing company is looking to expand into as many territories as possible globally but fierce resistance from taxi drivers and clashes with governmental regulations continues to damage the company’s image.

The NSW Government has suspended the licences of 40 Sydney drivers.

The reported proposals form part of a broader public consultation process.
