Yemen’s exiled government had wanted the rebels to withdraw from the cities and towns they had overrun since September as a precondition to a truce, but it came under pressure to agree to a halt in violence immediately.

Saudi fighter jets pounded a police station in Al-Radhma district in the southwestern Yemeni province of Ibb after the truce came into force early Saturday, Yemen’s Saba Net news agency reported.

The bombing targeted a pair of brothers, both chiefs in the Houthi forces, who were gathering to mourn a relative slain recently in the fighting.

The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release the information otherwise, say more than 50 civilians were also wounded in the strike Monday in Fayoush, a suburb of the southern port city of Aden.

Yemen was previously the preserve of IS’s jihadist rival Al-Qaeda, which controls swathes of the south and east, but since March the group has claimed a string of high-profile attacks.
