Two Americans who were being held in the war-ravaged country have been released and sent to Oman, the White House said Sunday.

Oman’s Foreign Ministry today announced that two Americans, three Saudis and a British hostage were released.

PM Khaled Bahah will hold a meeting in the next two days in Aden in which reconstruction and humanitarian relief top the agenda.

The Saudi-led anti-Houthi campaign, which came at Hadi’s request, seeks to restore the internationally recognized president and his government to power and has been ongoing since March 26.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) – The United Arab Emirates said Sunday that its military freed a British hostage who was kidnapped 18 months ago by al-Qaida in Yemen, which has expanded its reach amid fighting between Shiite rebels and their opponents.

The claim was backed up by an independent news site, Aden al-Ghad, which blamed al Qaeda-linked insurgents for Saturday’s explosion.

Yemen has been wracked by conflict since March, when the Saudi-led coalition launched air strikes against the rebels as they advanced on the main southern city of Aden, after seizing the capital in September.

There was no immediate comment from the Saudi-led coalition. The governor and other officials who were present at the time were not hurt in the apparent assassination attempt.

In a report released Tuesday, August 18, 2015, Amnesty worldwide says all sides fighting in Yemen have left a “trail of civilian death and destruction” in the conflict, killing scores of innocent people in what could amount to war crimes.
