Harry Redknapp has played down suggestions he is in the frame to replace Dick Advocaat as manager of Sunderland – and also cast doubt on Sam Allardyce’s willingness to move to the Stadium of Light.

DICK ADVOCAAT has told his players that Sunderland’s position at the foot of the Premier League will not improve unless they can eradicate the sort of mistakes that have put them there.

Furious Sunderland owner Ellis Short has defended his stewardship of the club, saying he has invested more than all of his predecessors combined, and demanding an apology from former player Michael Gray for accusing him of lying.

The Newcastle Legend has suggested that Sunderland could challenge Australia’s score in the final test match and not in a good way (for the mackems).

Sunderland found themselves stuck in the relegation zone for much of last season with Advocaat claiming the lack of competition in the side contributed to their struggles.
