After hitting Taiwan, Soudelor struck the Chinese mainland on Saturday night, killing 17 people there with five more missing, state media reported Monday. Another four individuals have been missing.

A typhoon that lashed Taiwan battered the mainland with heavy rain and winds on Sunday, leaving more than a dozen people dead or missing, levelling homes and cutting power to more than a million households.

At least four people were killed and four were missing when powerful Typhoon Soudelor slammed into Taiwan, authorities said Saturday.

Further south, in Fujian province where the typhoon made landfall on Saturday night, three people were killed by a mudslide and one was missing after being swept away by floods in Ningde, the Fujian Daily reported.

Six people have been reported dead in the wake of Soudelor, which has also left four others missing and more than 100 injured.

The typhoon ripped up trees and triggered landslides in Taiwan.
