Authorities in southeast China ordered the evacuation of about 158,000 people and ships back to port ahead of the typhoon, which was expected to hit Fujian province on Saturday.

Typhoon Soudelor hit China’s east coast on Sunday, killing 14 people and forcing the authorities to evacuate hundreds of thousands more.

At least four people were killed and four were missing when powerful Typhoon Soudelor slammed into Taiwan, authorities said Saturday.

Further south, in Fujian province where the typhoon made landfall on Saturday night, three people were killed by a mudslide and one was missing after being swept away by floods in Ningde, the Fujian Daily reported.

The typhoon ripped up trees and triggered landslides in Taiwan.
