Councilors amended an earlier motion that would have required Uber to get taxi licenses for each of its drivers, a move that may have forced the San Francisco-based company to end its popular “UberX” service in the city.

Uber says it has added 10,000 drivers in Australia in the past six months as the controversial ride sharing app continues its push to win over hostile governments.

Controversial ride-sharing company Uber will increase prices by approximately 10 per cent on its UberX service, starting immediately on Friday.
