Williams dropped only one point on serve in her opening two service games and jumped all over Watson’s serve to break in the fourth. Asked if she was taken aback by the reaction, Williams said: “I agree”.

“I’m really looking forward to playing Serena; I’ve never played her before”, Watson told the BBC.

Maybe it’s just flat-out mad. She also has an autoimmune disease, Sjögren’s syndrome, that sometimes makes her exhausted and weak.
