Federal election regulators released new details Wednesday about Republican presidential candidate and celebrity businessman Donald Trump’s wealth and financial holdings, weeks after he estimated his net worth at roughly billion.

To him, Trump’s sentiment is more than just questioning McCain’s heroism, but a “dumb” remark that shows his own lack of military experience or understanding.

Over the weekend Donald Trump said that Senator John McCain was not a war hero because he was captured.

After dismissing McCain’s reputation as a war hero because he was captured in Vietnam and saying “I like people who weren’t captured“, Trump declared “I will say what I want to say”.

Clinton called McCain a genuine war hero and said it was shameful “that it took so long for most of his fellow Republican candidates to start standing up to” Trump.

McCain told MSNBC he has fielded a “flood of calls” from military veterans unhappy with Trump’s remarks. “Somehow to denigrate that in any way is offensive, I think, to most of our veterans”.

McCain told MSNBC this morning that Trump doesn’t need to apologize to him, but should tell veterans he’s sorry.

Warren said while it’s easy to defend McCain as a war hero, the Republican candidates were much more reluctant to go after Trump when he described Mexican immigrants as rapists and drug dealers.

In spite of tales of McCain’s harrowing ordeal as a prisoner of war at the “Hanoi Hilton” camp, and widespread outcry in reaction to his words, Trump has refused to back down.

Asked on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” if Trump should apologize personally to him, McCain said: “I don’t think so”.
