The family of Sandra Bland will file a federal lawsuit over the 28-year-old’s death in police custody, according to the family’s attorney.

Bland’s death has sparked a conversation among lawmakers in Texas and elsewhere about jail standards and how authorities deal with potentially mentally ill or suicidal inmates.

The prosecutor in the Sandra Bland death investigation said Monday he has appointed an outside group of lawyers to review the evidence in the case to ensure that Waller County remains “an open book”.

Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw has confirmed he will testify at the hearing, along with Limestone County Sheriff Dennis Wilson, who has for years voiced concerns about problems facing Texas jails.

According to The Dallas Morning News, the silent footage documents Bland being interviewed in her prison uniform, making numerous phone calls and being taken to her jail cell.

Duhon said the video will include footage of Bland sitting in a holding cell, making phone calls and having her mugshot taken.

Waller County Judge Trey Duhon told reporters in a presentation of the video that law enforcement officials have received death threats stemming from Internet rumors that Bland was dead before she was taken to jail.
